Media Literacy – Real vs. Fake News

In Recognition of Media Literacy Week…

Thank you once again to Energeticcity.ca for helping us with some #MediaLiteracy but this time with a focus on what media literacy is, and how you can determine if news is real or fake.

 

2023 Spelling Bee – Cancelled

 

The Fort St John Literacy Society is once again busy planning the 4th annual Spelling Bee. Due to low enrollment in May this event was cancelled – so we are going to try again! We will require a minimum of 6 kids per category to move ahead with this event.

This year we are going to continue with the fundraising component, by encouraging each participant raise a minimum of $50 to participate. All of the proceeds will be directed towards enhancing and expanding our After School Homework Help Program.

The Spelling Bee will be held on Saturday October 21, 2023 at Margaret “Ma” Murray Community School, with a light lunch at 12:00.

Registration opens October 5th

Thank you to Energeticcity.ca for helping us with some #MediaLiteracy to help keep you up to date on why you can no longer access news on Facebook and Instagram, and some suggestions on where you can get access moving forward.

Tutor Training Workshop – Sept 11th & 12th

Do you have spare time in your life?
Are you looking for a rewarding way to spend your time?
Do you enjoy helping others and supporting your community?
If you said YES to any of these questions, then this volunteer opportunity is for you!
Upon completion of training and registration to be a tutor, a criminal record check (vulnerable sector) will be required.
Attendance is required at BOTH evening sessions. Light dinner will be provided

September is Literacy Month!

We are super excited to be once again celebrating #LiteracyMonth here in Fort St. John!  Thank you to the City of Fort St. John for helping us to raise awareness to the importance of literacy by proclaiming September as Literacy Month! This year’s theme is:

Literacy Connects Us: At home, at work and in the community.

5km Glow Run/Walk – Registration now OPEN!!

In celebration of Literacy Month- Help us Shine Some Light on Literacy!
1st Annual 5km Glow Run!!
Proceeds from this event will go towards our fundraising goal of $5,000 to expand our FREE programs offered to the community.

Limited spots available – every participant requires a registration regardless of age.
Please note that a signed liability waiver is required for ALL participants – collected at package pick up.
