Are you a dynamic visionary ready for your next challenge?
January 10, 2025
The Fort St John Literacy Society is seeking a dynamic visionary for our next Executive Director!
Our ED will be passionate about lifelong learning, views challenges as opportunities, understands strong communities are built upon enduring partnerships, and works to promote the value of literacy in our community.
Responsible to the Society’s Board of Directors, our ED will provide leadership to a small staff, oversee day to day business, oversee strategic planning functions including engaging stakeholders, proactively explore a wide variety of funding opportunities, and ensure funding deliverables are consistently met.
The very cornerstones of our Literacy Society include developing, evaluating, and supporting literacy projects within our community. To ensure success in these endeavours, our ED will be skilled in building strong working relationships with Board members, other literacy organization leaders, the public, the media, and other stakeholders. They will also maintain an organizational culture in which to attract, retain, and motivate a successful team in fulfilling the goals set out in the Society’s Strategic Plan which will be reviewed in 2025.
We look forward to hearing from you if you hold a professional background in non-profit organizational administration, strategic planning, budget management, networking, partnership building and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
For more details, please refer to the Executive Director job description.
To apply, please forward your resume and cover letter to chair@fsjliteracy.ca. We will begin reviewing applications on January 20th and will continue until the position is filled. We thank everyone for their interest but only candidates selected to move forward in the process will be contacted.
Thank you, Jessica!

After seven wonderful years, Jessica has decided to step away as the Executive Director of the Fort St. John Literacy Society. During her time in the role, she was instrumental in building to Society to what it is today, broadening the definition of Literacy and the programs and services we offer.
We will miss Jessica’s passion for literacy, enthusiasm she brought to every event, creativity with program creation and delivery, and the positive attitude she brings to everything. We are fortunate that Jessica will remain with the Society in a limited capacity as a consultant to the Board.
We wish Jessica well and know that she will find success in whatever endeavour she chooses!
As we recruit for a new Executive Director (check out the posting, it will go up today!), the fabulous staff team at the Society can assist you. Any concerns can be directed to L.J. Lawson, Board Chair at chair@fsjliteracy.ca.
