Farewell to Kara-Lee MacDonald, Temp ESL Teacher

On Aug 31st we celebrated with the beginner class to say goodbye and best wishes to Kara-Lee MacDonald, who has been filling the ESL Teacher position for the summer; and welcome Charo Lloret as she takes the reigns in the position.
We appreciate everything Kara-Lee has brought to the program and know she will be missed by all!

New ESL Teacher

We are excited to announce the addition of Rosario (Charo) Lloret as our new ESL Teacher!! Charo joins the Fort St. John Literacy Society team with a background in teaching, translation and is a published writer with her novel Wolf in a Beaver Coat.

ESL Teacher

The Fort St. John Literacy is seeking dynamic and energetic instructor to teach English as a Second Language Classes in Fort St John.  The successful candidate will be assessing the needs of immigrants who are studying English as a second language, responsible for lesson plan creation and development of learner-based curriculum, and program output reporting.

Position requirements:

  • TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate preferred or experience in teaching English as a Second Language
  • Two years teaching experience, preferably with adults
  • Certificate in Canadian Language Benchmark levels literacy would be an asset
  • PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) experience would be an asset
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Great oral and written communication
  • Self motivation and excellent team work skills
  • Ability to work independently and be flexible

Terms of employment:

  • 35 hours a week
  • Wage dependant on experience and qualification

We are excited to announce the establishment of the Fort St. John Literacy Society’s 1st Annual 5km Retro Run!!
Run, walk, jive or do the hustle dressed in attire from your favourite decade.
Proceeds from this event will go towards our fundraising goal of $8,000 to expand our FREE programs offered to the community.

The Fort St. John Literacy Society was founded in 1990 and has since been dedicated to promoting a client centered vision of literacy to our community through the delivery of programs and lifelong learning opportunities. Literacy programs have a significant impact bettering the economic, social and civil life of our community.

Spelling Bee – Registration Open

Winners of each category will receive $100 in prize money, a medal AND a trophy to display at their school for the year!
