Gardening 101: Sustainable Gardening
August 7, 2024
In today’s world, where grocery costs have skyrocketed, the ability to grow your own food is the most logical answer.
Join us for an interactive workshop that covers sustainable gardening tips and must know information when planning your garden.
Some of the topics covered will include:
Why is sustainable gardening important?
What are some benefits of and things to be aware of when gardening in the Peace Region?
General planting timelines based on anticipated harvesting
And more!
These workshops will take place on site at Aurora Acres Farm & Arena (formally Wyld Acres Farm)
Each workshop can only accommodate 10 participants, so we have planned to have 3 separate dates (August 19, 20 & 22) covering the same information – please only register for ONE of the three workshops.
If you have to cancel for any reason, please let us know or cancel the Eventbrite order so another community member can attend.

North Peace Savings Unplug & Play Family Literacy Week
January 16, 2024
January 21-28th has been proclaimed as Family Literacy Week here in Fort St. John and the Fort St. John Literacy Society is thrilled to announce the upcoming North Peace Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week!
This year’s theme is “Let’s have a family party!” Setting aside our electronic devices and getting together for a family party can be so special. What can be more fun than planning, creating and getting ready for a party? Literacy activities are part of a party. Children can have fun and learn at the same time.
The Fort St. John Literacy Society plans to host and collaborate with other local service providers on several activities throughout the week, and encourages all community members to access some of the online resources from their website or social media platform to unplug and play, and maybe even plan their own family party.
“We are extremely thankful to North Peace Savings for their title sponsorship this year, as it has allowed us to expand the event and offer additional free activities to the community throughout the week” said Jessica Kalman, Executive Director, Fort St. John Literacy Society.
“North Peace Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week was designed to encourage us all to take a break from our devices and rediscover the simple joys of reading and playing games together as a family,” says Brian Harris, CEO at North Peace Savings. “The week-long event here in Fort St. John is especially important for us, as it also demonstrates how we can come together as one to strengthen the social fabric of our communities. Together, we seek to support several key areas of impact – empowering parents with young children and maintaining mental wellness – with this event focused on community activities that help families reconnect in healthier ways.”
For more details on the activities happening throughout the week, please visit the Fort St. John Literacy Society’s Facebook page, or see the below calendar and posters.
Happy Family Literacy Week!
