The Fort St. John Literacy Society is very excited to be presenting a second (first) show of The Crazy Senoritas for a night of fabulous fun and fundraising. You don’t want to miss out on this vibrant and exuberant drag show which rolls into town Friday August 16th. Come on out to experience Beyonce, Whitney Houston, J-Lo, Shania Twain and more with our fun Mexican fiesta themed evening. And of course, there is the fabulous Host, Miss Diva Divine! She brings you on a hilarious journey – from gentle comedy … all the way to “OMG… Did she really just say that?!” It will be a night to Regender with music, comedy, and good, clean, dirty fun.

There will be a door prize, 50/50 draw and optional Mexican platter (for a fee), with all of the funds raised going towards enhancing and expanding the FREE literacy programs we offer to the community.

This is a 19+ show. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm

This FREE training is open to all who work with immigrants and refugees.

This workshop is designed to provide insights, skills, and practical tools for educators working with students in the classroom who may have experienced trauma and are struggling with mental health concerns. The workshop is based on research and expertise developed by Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) through years of teaching and learning about refugees in the settlement sector across the Lower Mainland of BC. The workshop focuses on a trauma-informed framework and healing centered approaches so that teachers can engage with students to foster not only language and skill acquisition but also help newcomers develop better mental health strategies, community engagement, and an overall sense of well-being as they transition through their settlement process in Canada.

Along with the workshop, participants will have access to the Community Based Training Guide which will be distributed as PDFs to the participants. The workshop will include practical tips and strategies, resources, and ideas that can help build a more inclusive classroom practice.

Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, and players we were able to raise $5,060.33!! All of these funds will be directed to literacy programming for youth (18 and under) clients.

Contestants young and old took to the stage at Margaret ‘Ma’ Murray Community School on April 13 for the Fort St. John Literacy Society’s second annual Spelling Bee.

The event raised $4,397 to support the society’s after school homework club. The top fundraiser was Cooper Haggstrom, who raised $740.

The Fort St. John Literacy Society is excited to announce that the recent New Year’s Eve fundraising party raised $16, 500!! All of these funds will help expand and enhance the FREE literacy programming that is offered to the community.

“This event was made possible because of sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who attended; all of which we are extremely thankful for” says Jessica Kalman, Executive Director for the FSJ Literacy Society. Title sponsors for this event included: Pomeroy Hotel & Conference Centre, Just Jacks, 101.5 The Bear, Peace SunFM, CJDC-TV and 890 CJDC.  As well as many door prize sponsors including VE Brandl who donated $500 as the final door prize. “We are already planning and looking forward to next year’s event” added Kalman
